The joint task force operatives arrested two pipeline vandals responsible for damaging a 16-inch pipeline operated by Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) at Irene in Delta on July 23.Isa Ado, the spokesman of the Joint task force, disclosed some interesting details the suspects have told during their preliminary interrogation.
He said that the vandals were sent to do their dirty job by a prospective surveillance contractor to make NPDC secure a deal with the said contractor.
The spokesman told the press that “the suspects confessed that they were sent by a contractor from Orogun community to carry out the act in order to secure contract job for its repairs from NPDC. The act, according to them, will force NPDC to give out the surveillance contract to one Moris Idiovwa. The suspects further confessed that they hatched the plan with others, now at large, at a hotel in Ugheli and perfected plans to embark on destruction and cutting of oil pipelines.’’
