Budget padding: Why APC govs won’t intervene — Gov. Abubakar

ABUJA— Despite their pledge, last week, to mediate in the myriads of crises rocking the National Assembly, governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have said they would, however, not delve into issues regarding the current budget-padding scandal particularly afflicting the House of Representatives. Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State stated this during a chat with journalists in Abuja. The governors had last week met President Muhammadu Buhari and obtained leave of the president to mediate in the crisis. Though Speaker Dogara is from Bauchi State, the governor said the issue in the House was a criminal matter and should be so treated, explaining that the APC governors, who had since dissolved into several committees, would only make interventions on issues that were political.

Banker shoots self dead to evade alleged fraud

A 44-year- old banker , Olisa Nwakobi ,has shot himself dead , over an alleged fruad case in the bank. Vanguard reliably gathered that the deceased worked as a marketer in the Jakande, Lekki , Lagos branch of one of the second generation banks. He was alleged to have done an illegal transaction of over three million thousand in connivance with one of the bank staff last Thursday. But the buble burst after a red flag was reportedly raised on the custormer’s account where the amount was withdrawn from. Sources at the bank told Vanguard that the bank’s Operation Group Internal Audit carried out investigation on the illegal trasaction in the process of which it was linked to Nwokobi.

According to The Nairobian, a popular Kenyan Newspaper, a 39-year-old man, James Mutua, has suddenly developed breasts after he allegedly slept with the wife of one his neighbours.

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday vowed that the killers of Redeemed Christian Church of God preacher, Eunice Elisha Olawale, in Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory will not go scot-free.

The President, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir David Lawal, said this during the burial service held in RCCG FCT 2 Provincial Headquarters in Kubwa.
Recall that Olawale was killed while preaching in the Gbazango-West area of Kubwa, a satellite town, in the Bwari Area Council on July 9.

Naira stabilises against dollar

Lagos – The Naira on Monday, stabilised against the dollar at the parallel market.
The Nigerian currency exchanged at N365 to the dollar, maintaining same value as at Friday.
However, the naira weakened further against the Pound Sterling, but maintained same value with the Euro as it exchanged at N475 and N400 respectively, from N470 and N400 it traded on Friday.
At the interbank window, the naira exchanged at N292.15 to a dollar.

PENGASSAN enforces total compliance with strike

There was a total compliance of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) members yesterday with the directive to embark on an indefinite strike.

Fola Orebiyi, Nigerian Killed In London By Group Of Gang Youths

A 16-year-old Nigerian teenage boy has been stabbed to death after being chased by a gang of youths on bicycles in Notting Hill, west London.  The 6th form boy who has been identified as  Fola Orebiyi, was attacked in Portobello Road at around 8.45pm last night, after witnesses said a fight had broken out nearby. He collapsed just two doors down from the shop unit which featured in the 1999 Hugh Grant film Notting Hill, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have launched a murder investigation into his death, but no arrests have yet been made. His family have been told of the tragedy and this morning they were too upset to speak.

Witnesses said the boy had been chased into Portobello Road after a fight broke out on a neighbouring estate.

Wife stabs husband to death in Ghana

  A woman in Ghana has been arrested after she allowed a moment of madness to push her into stabbing her husband to death, following a domestic quarrel, on Saturday, July 2.

 

According to a Facebook user, Agyemang Paapi, the deceased, said to be an Integrated Science teacher at Kumasi Senior High School (KUHIS), identified as Justice, had an issue with the wife and in the heat of the quarrel, she dashed into the kitchen, brought out a knife with which she used to stab her husband in the stomach, leaving him dead, with his intestines gorging out of his stomach.

 

It is learnt that the woman has been arrested and is being detained by security operatives who have commenced investigations into the matter.
