Pinnick says Keshi must accept NFF terms

Stephen Keshi
The President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick has said that out-of-contract Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi must be ready to work with the fresh terms of the federation were he to keep his job.
The future of Keshi as the coach of the Super Eagles is still very unclear as his contract has not been renewed since it lapsed with the World Cup in Brazil last July. The Eagles regrouped in Abuja on Tuesday for two international friendlies against Cote d’Ivoire and Sudan in Dubai with assistant coach Daniel Amokachi taking charge in place of the embattled Keshi who is holidaying in the USA with his family.
“We have given him conditions and some of those conditions is for him to be ready to work with a technical performance team,” Pinnick said on a Channels television interview on Tuesday night.
“It’s not just easy to say you discard him and you bring someone else even though people say a coach is as good as his last game.”
The new NFF board led by Pinnick upon assumption of office in October asked Keshi to leave the team. The decision was however short lived as President Goodluck Jonathan ordered his return to the team against the wish of the federation.
The change in position of the NFF is seen a drive to please the government against the popular demand of Nigerians. The PUNCH has learnt that the decision to work with Keshi has left the federation divided as while a few of the members feel keeping the coach would grant them favours from top Federal Government officials, others have kicked bitterly against the move asking the members to be professional and yielded to the demand of experts.
Several retired players and coaches who are seen as friends of Keshi have spoken against his continued stay with the Eagles despite the failure of the team to qualify for the 2015 Africa Nations Cup. Samson Siasia who took over midway into the 2012 qualifiers was sacked by the NFF immediately Nigeria failed to qualify.
Former Eagles coach Shaibu Amodu, who first pleaded for the NFF to keep Keshi for the remaining games of the 2015 Afcon run after he was first sacked, has called on Keshi to move on. Adegboye Onigbinde and Christian Chukwu who have also managed the national team have demanded that he quits the team just as a former coach of The Gambia Kashimawo Laloko said a about a fortnight ago. On Tuesday a former coach of the Super Falcons Ismaila Mabo advised the embattled coach to move on and avoid embarrassment

Marlene got up from her business class seat to freshen up 10 minutes before arrival – but couldn’t rouse Graeme when she returned.
She then was left horrified to learn that her husband had died.
Dad-of-three Graeme, 62, was described by his wife as the hardest-working, most caring man she knew.
Marlene, 61, who runs a B&B in Montrose, told the Daily Record: “I was left in shock when I discovered he had passed away right next to me.
“I spoke to him, then tried to prod him awake but when I felt him he was ice cold.”

Man beats pregnant girlfriend with steak before shooting at her and a child

Jeremiah Genesis Taylor
A young man was arrested after beating his girlfriend with a steak before shooting at her.

The 25-year-old man of Millington, Tennessee, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment after fighting with his pregnant girlfriend.

Jeremiah Genesis Taylor was arrested by a SWAT team after a domestic dispute with his pregnant girlfriend turned violent.

The incident took place in the 6800 block of Chandeleur.

Millington Police said that Taylor beat his girlfriend in the face and chest with the steak after they had an argument. According to an affidavit, he told his girlfriend:, “If you call police, tell them to bring an ambulance.”

When the woman, who is three months pregnant, ran to her car with her child, Taylor allegedly fired a shot at the car. The bullet hit the bumper of the car.

When police arrived, they set up a perimeter around the house, but Taylor refused to come outside. The Shelby County SWAT team was called and they were able to take Taylor into custody.

He was arrested, and is being held on $7,500 bond.

South Korean prosecutors have arrested a former Korean Air Lines Co. executive for allegedly endangering flight safety

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korean prosecutors have arrested a former Korean Air Lines Co. executive for allegedly endangering flight safety by delaying a plane because her macadamia nuts were not served the way she wanted, officials said Wednesday.
Cho Hyun-ah, the daughter of the airline's chairman, has faced mounting public anger because she forced the Dec. 5 flight to return to its gate in New York to remove a senior flight attendant. She was angry that the nuts were served in a bag, not on a plate, in an incident that has been dubbed "nut rage."
Prosecutors have yet to press criminal charges against Cho, but South Korean law allows authorities to arrest a suspect for up to six months over worries the person could flee or destroy evidence. Seoul Western District Court said such concerns were warranted.
Cho was arrested and put to a Seoul detention facility shortly after the court approved her arrest warrant on Tuesday night, according to officials at the Seoul Western Prosecutors' Office. A current Korean Air executive, surnamed Yeo, was also arrested Tuesday for allegedly pressuring Korean Air employees to conceal the incident, the officials said.
The court said there were "systematic attempts to cover up" Cho's actions "since the beginning of the incident."
The prosecutors' office has said Cho would face several charges, including inflight violence and changing a flight route, which is prohibited under aviation law.
Cho, 40, resigned earlier this month as vice president at Korean Air and from all her roles at the airline's affiliates.
A passenger on the flight told local media that Cho assaulted and threatened crew members. Park Chang-jin, the senior flight attendant who was kicked off, told the KBS television network that he was insulted and had to kneel before her because he didn't dare to challenge the chairman's daughter. Park said Cho also poked the back of his hand with a corner of the flight manual book several times.
Her behavior touched a nerve with South Koreans who are frustrated with family members who control mighty business groups known as chaebol that dominate Asia's fourth-largest economy.
Cho and her two siblings quickly became executives at the airline and its affiliates. The family's direct stake in Korean Air is just 10 percent but cross-shareholdings among Hanjin companies give it effective control.
South Korea's transport ministry has also faced criticism because ministry investigators probing the incident were said to be too cozy with company executives who tried to protect Cho. Most of the ministry's investigators formerly worked at the airline, South Korea's largest, raising questions about their fairness.
Earlier this week, the ministry said it decided to punish four of its officials for misconduct during the investigation. One official was arrested last week for leaking information about the probe to Yeo, the Korean Air executive, in several telephone conversations and text messages

Baby died of starvation while her parents dined at a restaurant.

Ruby and Roy Stephens
A baby died of starvation while her parents dined at a restaurant.

The baby girl, 22-day-old Betsey Kee Stephens, died a slow and painful death as she had been starved for a few days.

Her parents, Ruby Stephens, 23, and Roy Stephens, 48, were arrested for murder. According to police, the couple drove from Indiana to Florida, and failed to feed the baby.

As soon as they arrived in Florida, the couple went to their hotel and noticed the baby’s feet were cold. They covered her with a blanket.

The couple then went to the Golden Corral restaurant to meet and spend time with family members. When Ruby Stephens checked on her baby she noticed that her feet were cold and the baby was unresponsive. Betsey Kee Stephens was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Her parents have been charged with first-degree murder, Lakeland Police said on Tuesday. The couple is accused of neglecting the baby, causing her to suffer a painful death.

An autopsy showed that the baby had been dead for more than three hours, before the parents sought help. The baby weighed only 4 pounds at the time of her death. She lost about 2 pounds since her birth. The normal weight for a baby her age is 8 pounds, the medical examiner's office said.

Police said that the couple were traveling with their 1-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter. Both appeared healthy. The Lakeland Police Department said that both children are now with the Department of Children and Families.

Police said that Roy Stephens was not the biological father of the baby. Ruby Stephens told authorities that Roy did not pay attention to the baby since her birth.

She also said that the issue with the baby not being his caused a lot of stress in their marriage.

Police are still investigating the incident. If found guilty, the parents face life in prison.

Deadly Attacks Rock Northern Nigeria

Strife-torn northern Nigeria has been hit by two deadly attacks, when a female suicide bomber was killed as she tried to enter military barracks and seven died in a bus explosion.

Soldiers opened fire on the woman when she refused to be searched as she approached the barracks in Bolari, in Gombe state, detonating the explosives belt she was wearing, according to eyewitness accounts.

The woman, who was wearing a hijab, was killed instantly, witnesses said.

"The woman refused to stop and continued to advance towards the military guards at the gates despite repeated orders from them to stop at a distance," said Shuaibu Nasir, who lives near the gates of the barracks.

"The soldiers opened fire on the woman who quickened her pace towards them and as they fired shots at her she exploded with a loud sound that shook our buildings," Nasir said.

Nigeria's northeastern Gombe state has been the scene of several attacks by the Islamist group Boko Haram in recent months, and the same barracks were targeted in July.

Yesterday's blast prompted policemen to fire warning shots in the air, causing panic among residents, Nasir said.

Another resident, Ahmed Baballe, said the would-be bomber was "blown to pieces" by the impact of the explosion.

"The soldiers didn't take chances with the woman and opened fire when she showed no sign of stopping to be searched," Baballe said.

Northeast Nigeria has been continually rocked by attacks mounted by Boko Haram militants, increasingly using female suicide bombers.

The extremist group, whose name roughly means "Western education is forbidden", have killed thousands since it began a deadly insurgency in northern Nigeria in 2009.

Experts have cast doubt on Nigeria's ability to hold planned national elections in February, because of rising unrest in parts of the northeast.

Hours earlier yesterday, witnesses said that seven people were killed when a bus exploded in a village close to Potiskum, the commercial capital of northern Yobe state.

"The bus went up in flames from multiple blasts that killed all seven men inside," said Hambali Baidu, a resident of Maiduwa village, which lies some 60 kilometres from the city.

No official confirmation of the death toll has been given.

"We heard a series of explosions from the bus which went flying into the air in flames," said Usman Haruna, another resident

Church employee charged after firing shots at pastor

Deputies said an Osceola County church
employee has been charged after he opened fire
on a pastor, who then pulled out his own gun and
shot the employee.
The exchange of gunfire happened at the Living
Water Fellowship Church on Pleasant Hill Road
around 8 a.m.
According to investigators, a meeting was taking
place to terminate the employment of
maintenance worker Benjamin Parangan, Jr.
Deputies said Parangan, 47, pulled out a gun and
fired several shots at Pastor Terry Howell.
Howell was not injured, but he returned fire with
his own gun, striking Parangan. Parangan was
taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center, where
he is in stable condition.
Members of the church told Channel 9 they were
shaken up after hearing about the incident.
"To hear it happened here in my neighborhood,
and not only my neighborhood, but my church,
it's shocking," said Robert Quintana.
"It's just a tough situation right now," said
Gabriel Colon.
Several church employees witnessed the shooting
and gave similar statements to detectives about
what happened.
"There is a child care facility on the property at
the church. It was not affected in any way by this
isolated incident," said Twis Lizauain, of the
Osceola County Sheriff's Office.
Detectives were seen serving a search warrant at
Parangan's Osceola County home Tuesday night.
It's unclear what, if anything, was found in the
house.
Investigators told Eyewitness News that Howell's
involvement is being investigated as a case of
self-defense.
"It could happen anywhere though, (in) the times
we live in. Really unfortunate," said Quintana.
Parangan has been charged with aggravated
assault with intent to kill. He will be booked into
the Osceola County Jail after he's released from
the hospital.

Young mothers caught accepting cash in exchange for breastfeeding adult men

15 people were arrested on prostitution charges after police busted a bizarre prostitution ring in which young mothers accepted payments from adult men in exchange for breastfeeding them, police in China said.

The Ministry of Public Security announced that the Beijing and Hebei police departments joined forces in busting two gangs involved in the breastfeeding prostitution ring.

Police began their investigation after discovering websites that offered women who breastfeed adults in exchange for cash. More than 200 people paid for the service.

Prices were discussed through instant messaging applications.

The website published photographs of young mothers for its customers. The website charged only 240 yuan ($36) per month, for access to the young mothers.

A 23-year-old mother allegedly offered to have sex for 1,500 yuan ($241) and offered breastfeeding for 1,000 yuan ($161).

Another website offered customers a monthly service that costs 40,000 yuan ($6,450) for breastfeeding and 50,000 yuan ($8,062) for sex plus breastfeeding.

Woman with 3 breasts seen walking 4 men like dogs on street

A woman in Florida, who caused controversy by surgically adding a third breast to her chest, was seen walking with four men who acted like her dogs, according to a video uploaded to the Internet.

21-year-old Alisha Hessler, who calls herself Jasmine Tridevil, paid $20,000 to surgically add the third breast to her chest.

This week, she was seen with four nearly naked men, walking down the street like dogs.

A passerby, who was parked at a gas station, quickly took out his phone to record the incident, and uploaded the video to Facebook.

The four men were crawling along the sidewalk on their hands and feet. Hessler was also heard yelling demands at her dogs.

Hessler of Tampa, added a third breast to her chest, hoping to become a reality TV star.

More than 50 doctors who feared that the surgery will violate ethical codes, rejected her request. However, she found one surgeon who was willing to perform the procedure.

In the United States, surgeons are prohibited from carrying out operations that could be harmful to human dignity in the ethical codes outlined by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Hessler said that the doctor took tissue from her abdomen and used it to mold a third breast.

88-Year-Old Essebsi Sworn In as Tunisia President

Anti-Islamist Beji Caid Essebsi, 88, was sworn in as Tunisia's first freely elected president at a ceremony in parliament today.

The election of Essebsi, a veteran of previous regimes, is seen as a landmark for the birthplace of the Arab Spring, where longtime dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was toppled four years ago.

Essebsi's victory over outgoing president Moncef Marzouki capped Tunisia's sometimes troubled transition to democracy and has won praise from Western leaders.

Essebsi told parliament he would be "the president of all Tunisians" and "the guarantor of national unity".

"There is no future for Tunisia without consensus among political parties and members of civil society," he said. "There is no future for Tunisia without national reconciliation."

Essebsi's opponents have accused him of seeking a return to the era of Ben Ali, who clung to power for 23 years, combining authoritarian rule with a degree of prosperity and stability for his people.

Following independence from France in 1956, he became an adviser to the country's founding father and first president, Habib Bourguiba, holding a number of key jobs under him and then Ben Ali.

His Nidaa Tounes movement, which won landmark parliamentary elections in October, includes many members of Ben Ali's old ruling party.

But the anti-Islamist lawyer says Tunisia has turned a page on the past.

Essebsi took 55.68 per cent of the presidential vote in a December 21 runoff against Marzouki.

It was the first time Tunisians have freely elected their head of state since independence in 1956.

Parliament speaker Mohamed Ennaceur described the oath-taking ceremony as "an exceptional moment in history".

The revolution that began in Tunisia spread to many parts of the Arab world, with mass protests in Egypt, Libya, Syria and Yemen.

In every country except Tunisia the revolution was followed by violent turmoil or, as in Syria's case, a devastating civil war

Palestinians Join International Criminal Court

Stung by a resounding defeat in the UN Security Council, the Palestinians announced today that they joined the International Criminal Court to pursue war crimes charges against Israel.

The move by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas set the stage for a diplomatic showdown with the United States and was likely to draw an angry response from Israel.

Abbas has been under heavy domestic pressure to take action against Israel following months of tensions fueled by the collapse of US-brokered peace talks, a 50-day war between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza, a spate of deadly Palestinian attacks on Israeli targets and Israeli restrictions on Palestinian access to a key Muslim holy site in Jerusalem.

Yesterday's defeat in the UN Security Council further raised pressure on Abbas to act.

"We want to complain. There's aggression against us, against our land. The Security Council disappointed us," Abbas said as he gathered a meeting of the Palestinian leadership in the West Bank.

Abbas had threatened to join the international court if Tuesday's Security Council resolution failed. The Palestinians had asked the council to set a three-year deadline for Israel to withdraw from all occupied lands claimed by the Palestinians.

After two decades of failed, on-again, off-again peace talks, the Palestinians have grown disillusioned and decided to seek international recognition of their independence in the absence in various global bodies.

While the campaign does not change the situation on the ground, the Palestinians believe the strong international support will put pressure on Israel to allow the creation of a Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem.

Israel, which captured the three areas in 1967, says Palestinian independence can only be reached through negotiations. It opposes the Palestinian diplomatic campaign as an attempt to bypass negotiations.

The Palestinian campaign scored a major victory in 2012 when Palestine was admitted to the UN General Assembly as a nonmember observer state. This upgraded status gave the Palestinians the authority to join dozens of international treaties and agencies.

Still, turning to the International Criminal Court marks a major policy shift by transforming Abbas' relations with Israel from tense to openly hostile. Abbas has been threatening to join the court since 2012, but held off under American and Israeli pressure.

The Palestinians can use the court to challenge the legality of Israeli settlement construction on occupied lands and to pursue war crimes charges connected to military activity.

Four police officers arrested on suspicion of abusing detainee 3 years ago

The Police Investigation Department of the State Attorney's office arrested on Wednesday four police officers in southern Israel on suspicion they took part in abusing a detainee three years ago. According to the suspicion, the abuse entailed pouring boiling water on the detainee several times during the investigation which caused the detainee to suffer burns on several parts of his body. The four suspected police officers will be brought to the Jerusalem Magistrates court on Wednesday morning for a hearing that will determine whether their remand is extended.

US: Man who tries to run down police shot and killed

A man who had posted an online video threatening to kill police and FBI agents tried to use his car to run down officers seeking to arrest him on Tuesday so, fearing for their lives, they shot and killed him, authorities said. Police did not immediately identify the man, who was killed in Upper Darby, in suburban Philadelphia, as officers ordered him out of the car and he appeared ready to accelerate at them as they manned a blockade. Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said the officers feared the man would kill them and they "did what they had to do." He said five officers fired at the man and no officers were injured.

AirAsia victim with life jacket raises questions about plane's last moments

A body recovered on Wednesday from the crashed AirAsia plane was wearing a life jacket, an official with Indonesia's search and rescue agency said, raising questions about how the disaster unfolded. Rescuers believe they have found the plane on the ocean floor off Borneo, after sonar detected a large, dark object beneath waters near where debris and bodies were found on the surface. Ships and planes had been scouring the Java Sea for Flight QZ8501 since Sunday, when it lost contact during bad weather about 40 minutes into its flight from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore.

Egypt to begin expanding Gaza buffer zone next week

In bid to crackdown on Sinai terror groups, Egypt begins work on doubling width of buffer zone with Gaza Strip. Egypt said Tuesday work will begin next week to double the width of a buffer zone being built along the border with the Gaza Strip to prevent terrorists infiltrating from the Palestinian enclave. A 500-metre wide buffer zone is now being built along some 10 kilometers of the border, with some 800 homes being demolished in the process. Work will begin next week to expand it by another 500 meters, North Sinai provincial Governor Abdel Fattah Harhur said. Harhur told AFP he had met families from the area to be evacuated and told them they needed to inform authorities of the border city of Rafah whether they want financial compensation or alternative housing. Construction of the buffer zone comes in the wake of an October 24 suicide bombing that killed 30 Egyptian soldiers and wounded scores more.
After that incident, Egypt declared a three-month emergency in parts of North Sinai, a remote but strategic region bordering Israel and Gaza. Egypt suspects Palestinian terrorists of aiding attacks against its security forces that have increased since the army ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last year. The army has also stepped up destruction of tunnels from Gaza that it says are used to smuggle arms, food and money by the Palestinian militant group Hamas. It says it has destroyed more than 1,600 tunnels since Morsi's ouster. Terrorists in the Sinai Peninsula have killed scores of policemen and soldiers since the overthrow, vowing revenge against a police crackdown on Morsi supporters that has killed more than 1,400 people.

Man kills his friend’s wife before kidnapping and raping her 10-year-old daughter

Donald Hugh Davidson
A man of Florida, was arrested for a vicious attack on a woman and her daughter.

A Clay County Grand Jury indicted Donald Hugh Davidson, Jr., 34, on Wednesday, for the murder of 35-year-old Roseanne Welsh.

Davidson was indicted on charges of murder in the first degree, attempted sexual battery, four counts of sexual battery, lewd or lascivious molestation, kidnapping and grand theft auto.

Davidson, who is a registered sex offender, is accused of fatally stabbing the woman when her 10-year-old daughter came home from school on Monday, Sheriff Rick Beseler said.

The suspect then kidnapped the girl, drove off in the family’s van and sexually assaulted her. The girl was later released by his captor. Deputies arrested Davidson of the 5700 block of Canvasback Road, Middleburg, about eight hours after the woman’s death.

He faces a murder charge in the death of 35-year-old Roseann Welsh Kasama. Davidson and the victim's husband were long-time friends.

Davidson was released from prison in 2010, after he was found guilty of two counts of lewd molestation and aggravated battery on a pregnant woman, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

The 13-year-old son of Kasama, discovered the body of his mother about 6:00 p.m., and called police, Beseler said.

The state is seeking the death penalty in this case. Davidson was booked in the Clay County Jail, where he is being held without bond.

My Baby Turned Into A Python And Tried To Swallow Me – Mother Who Killed Baby

The 27-year-old woman, whose name is not disclosed, appeared in court charged with the murder of a five-months-old baby. Trying to justify her actions a young mother claimed that her daughter repeatedly turned into a python trying to swallow her alive.
These alleged transformations made the woman threw her own baby into a pit toilet, where the innocent girl died. Later the woman confessed that she had heard voices telling her “to take the baby back to the waters she had come from”.
By the end of the trial the woman was ordered to be detained and referred to a mental institution for examination. This is not the first time children became the victims of insane parents or those willing to justify the murder with witchcraft.
One month ago  a 10-year-old boy was thrown into Imo River in Akwa Ibom state over witchcraft accusations but luckily survived. A similar incident occured in the same area where three children and their father were accused of witchcraft and escaped lynching.
In Nigeria, some pastors have incorporated African witchcraft beliefs into their brand of Christianity resulting in a campaign of violence against young Nigerians. Children and babies branded as evil are being abused, abandoned and even murdered.
The preachers make money out of the fear providing costly exorcism services of their parents and their communities. In the states of Akwa Ibom and Cross River about 15,000 children were branded as witches and most of them end up abandoned and abused on the streets

Cause of Ebola outbreak was 'a young boy playing near colony of infected bats', scientists say

Scientists said today that the cause of the deadly Ebola virus that hit West Africa this year was a 2 year old boy, known as patient zero, who played on a tree near a colony of virus-infested bats in his village in Meliandou, Guinea. He was the first person to die but before he died, he infected other family members, who then spread it to others and the virus eventually spread into other areas in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria and Senegal, before moving to the US, UK and Spain.

This Ebola outbreak is by far the largest ever-recorded outbreak and it has killed about 7,800 people by Dec. 17, 2014, according to WHO.

Somalia says US airstrike kills al-Shabab leader

A U.S. airstrike killed the intelligence chief of Somali terror group al-Shabab, Somalia's intelligence service said Tuesday.
Abdishakur is the name of the slain leader, who is also known as Tahlil, a statement from the spy agency said, adding that the operation also killed two other al-Shabab militants.
The Pentagon said the airstrike took place Monday in the vicinity of Saakow, Somalia. The statement from the pentagon provided no details, beyond saying it did not believe the attack caused any civilian or bystander casualties.
A senior defense official said the strike did not target Ahmad Umar, who took over as the top leader of al-Shabab when its previous leader, Ahmed Abdi Godane, was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Somalia on Sept. 1. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss details of the attack by name
Al-Shabab is an ultra-conservative Islamic militant group that is linked to the al-Qaida terrorist network and wants to run Somalia by its strict interpretation of Shariah law. Despite militants suffering huge losses in recent years, including the killing of their leader in a U.S. airstrike earlier this year, al-Shabab remains a threat. Al-Shabab leader Ahmed Godane was killed in a U.S. airstrike in September.
African Union troops supporting Somalia's weak army have pushed al-Shabab from major strongholds, including the capital, Mogadishu, in 2011. However, al-Shabab fighters still carry out terror attacks in Somalia's capital and in neighboring countries that have contributed troops to the African Union Mission to Somalia.
On Christmas day al-Shabab gunmen attacked the main African Union base in Mogadishu. The A.U. base hosts U.N. offices and embassies.
Al-Shabab leader Zakariya Ismail Hersi, who had a $3 million bounty on his head, surrendered to Somali authorities three days ago.
