Officer Fired For Interrupting Another Officer’s Choking Of Suspect

Horne was fired from the police force and charged with obstruction for “jumping on officer Kwiatkowski’s back and/or striking him with her hands.” Kwiatkpwski’s documented account of the incident included the statement “she never got on top of me” regarding Horne, but that confession has gone ignored.
Horne lost her pension because of the incident. Though she has filed several appeals, she continues not to receive any payments for her 19 years as a police officer. She now works as a truck driver to feed her five children.
Kwiatkowski was later forced to resign after one incident in which he choked an officer, and another in which he punched a cop while off-duty. He was also indicted in 2014 for violating Black teen suspects.
Horne continues the fight in gaining her pension, with her case recently being sent to the New York State retirement system to be reviewed.
While Horne lost so much to stop an act of police misconduct, she says she would do it all again. “I don’t regret it,” she said
