Husband sets his wife’s bed on fire while she and her 3 children were asleep because she asked for a divorce

An angry husband set his wife’s bed on fire while she was asleep because she asked for a divorce, police in Michigan said.

Oakland County Police said that the 35-year-old woman and her three children managed to escape unharmed from the fire early Monday.

The incident unfolded in the 9400 block of Cherrywood. The woman’s 38-year-old husband was arrested. The woman told investigators at the scene that she was sleeping with her 10-year-old daughter when she smelled fire.

She woke up and realized that there was a fire in her closet and in a nearby utility room.

The fire was extinguished by the woman and her three children, aged 17, 15, and 10, by using pots filled with water from the kitchen sink.

One child had to kick the laundry room door open in order to extinguish the fire. She told police that she and her husband are in the middle of a divorce.

He was angry with her and he started the fire in retaliation for her not talking to him. Fire investigators determined that the fire was the result of arson.

The husband was booked into the Oakland County Jail.
