Parents sentenced to 7 years in prison for caging autistic son

View image on TwitterA couple was sentenced to seven years in prison and ordered to each pay a $500 fine for keeping their autistic son inside a cage.

Last month, a jury recommended seven years in prison for Terry and Victoria Smith. Both were found guilty of child endangerment.
KMOV.com reported the details of the autistic boys living situation before authorities arrived.

When police, paramedics and a case worker responded, the boy’s grandmother was watching him and five siblings. Authorities say she led them to the basement, where the autistic child was in a 3-foot-by-6-foot crib covered with a plywood top and held together with bungee cords and zip ties. Investigators said the child was naked and sitting in feces and urine.

Body found in suitcase in Tokyo Station locker

A worker at Japan's Tokyo Station got an unpleasant shock after opening an abandoned suitcase that no one had claimed for a month — the decomposing body of an elderly woman inside.
Image result for Body found in suitcase in Tokyo Station lockerThe Tokyo Metropolitan Police said the corpse was found Sunday in a suitcase in a temporary storage area at Tokyo's main train station. Japanese media reports said the body was of an elderly woman, 140 centimeters tall (4-feet, 7-inches) tall. Police are trying to establish her identity.
The bright yellow suitcase was left in an unlocked coin locker on April 26, according to the media reports. It measured 70 by 50 by 25 centimeters (28 by 20 by 10 inches).
Nothing unusual was observed about the suitcase, no odor or anything, said Junichi Omoto, a spokesman for regional train company JR East.
"We were surprised and horrified," he said.
It's normal practice to hold abandoned luggage for a month to see if anyone claims it.
Major Japanese train stations have banks of lockers for travelers to store items temporarily.

Mother's boyfriend arrested after burnt body is identified as missing 6-yr-old's

The Sacramento County Crime Lab confirmed that the burned body of an infant discovered in a rural area about 100 miles from where she was last seen belonged to the missing child.
According to a statement by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, the 25-year-old boyfriend of Jadianna Larsen's mother was arrested on a murder charge early Saturday and is being held without bail in the girl's death.
The suspect, Juan Rivera, Jadianna's caretaker, who reported her missing on Thursday night, authorities said. Rivera, who is a registered drug offender according to authorities, is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
Sheriff's deputies, search-and-rescue teams and volunteers had been looking for the girl since then. Rivera told investigators before his arrest that he awoke to find Jadianna missing from her apartment after he experienced a medical emergency that had caused him to lose consciousness.
At the time of Jadianna’s disappearance, her mother – who has not been identified – was away undergoing medical treatment, Sacramento County Sheriff Department Sgt. Lisa Bowman told The Sacramento Bee. Bowman did not disclose the type of treatment but said the mother had been gone for a number of days and left Jadianna in Rivera’s care.

'Immunity or not, you'll face the law' - President speaks on corrupt leaders

President Muhammadu Buhari has reinforced his government’s commitment to fight corruption and to ensure offenders face the full wrath of the law.
In a Vanguard compilation of comments and thoughts of Buhari, 48 hours before his inauguration as the new Nigeria leader, he reiterated the top issues his administration will tackle after assuming office – security, unemployment, fighting corruption, infrastructure amongst others.
He said the Goodluck Jonathan administration has grounded the Nigerian system, as he acknowledged the challenges he must face to bring about the ‘change’ Nigerians are yearning for.
He said, “the biggest message is to try and persuade the people that it is not possible to change the state of affairs now. It took 16 years to get to that state of affairs. Nigeria earned more revenue during that period than what it earned from 1914 to 1999.

How He Was Harassed By Soldiers And Police For Helping Accident Victims

If you’ve ever travelled between Abuja to Lagos, this won’t surprise you!
(Some Nigerian soldiers, Police and “The Man-in-Orange” in these photos who claimed to be a uniformed man in mufti will be the subject of this poor narrative).

Between Lokoja and Okene, we witnessed a fresh auto accident and immediately disembarked to help accident victims. However, what happened to us next was the most despicable act of callousness by Nigerian security agents.

So, after we assisted the victims by arranging for their evacuation in a pick-up van driven by Road Safety officials, we left the scene after giving physical and little financial support to some of the victims. Unknown to us, the man in orange T-shirt had secretly gathered and met with the policemen and soldiers on the scene, as we meant to leave the scene they pounced on us.

Pakistani politician Fazal-ur-Rehman blames women in jeans for earthquakes:

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of the hardline Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) gestures during a press conference in Islamabad, 30 July 2007, after the party meeting. Rehman criticized Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's pre-election power-sharing deal with self-exiled prime minister Benazir Bhutto. Musharraf may hang up his army uniform to pave the way for a pact with former Bhutto after the pair met in Abu Dhabi, a minister said. AFP PHOTO/Farooq NAEEM (Photo credit should read FAROOQ NAEEM/AFP/Getty Images)Mother Nature is a force to be reckoned with, and we mere mortals have learned to respect and fear her wrath in the form of hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis and more.
But, according to Pakistani politician Fazal-ur-Rehman, women in jeans are to blame for disasters like earthquakes and inflation, India newspaper the New India Express reported.
In a press conference at an Islamabad hotel, Rehman, who is the chief of Pakistani political party Jamiat Ulema-e-Islami Fazl, compared women who are not covered like a “sack of potatoes” to “mobile weapons of mass destruction.”
He also blamed “immodest women” for crisis’ like lack of energy supply and the deteriorating security situation in Pakistan and suggested that the Taliban brothers wouldn’t bother attacking his country if women were dressed in sacks.
His solution? He’s requesting the Pakistani armed forces to launch a military operation against women wearing jeans all over the country.
Looks like Rehman won’t be hoping for a sale at Madewell or Levis any time soon.
