The facility, provided by Globacom mobile with active support of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), was launched on Monday by the Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka.
Chidoka said that the provision of the internet facility by the company would further make the Nigerian airports more competitive and user- friendly.
 
Commenting after the launch, Mr. Chidoka stated that "the launch of this facility marks a milestone in our efforts to improve standards in the sector. What you are seeing today is the result of the many weeks of hard work as several obstacles were encountered along the line. Human beings with the right attitudes and facilities can make the sector grow," he said.
"I hope we would make our airports more customer-friendly and focused.
He insisted that with the launch of the wifi, Nigerians could be proud of the entire aviation industry.
Also speaking at the event, the Co-ordinating Business Development Solutions, Globacom, Mr. Ike Orakwutu, said that in the first phase, the Lagos airport; local and international, Abuja; local and international and Port Harcourt; local and international wings would be connected with the facility.
On the second phase, he said another 12 airports would be connected in the next 10 weeks while the other airports would be connected with the facility within the next 46 months.
The Managing Director of FAAN, Engr. Saleh Dunoma, promised that it would continue to partner with private investors in a bid to propel forward.
