Father, son in court for stealing 11,000 pieces of cat fish

Awoniyi Solomon, an adult (age not declared), on Friday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti for alleged theft of 11, 000 pieces of cat fish.Image result for cat fish pond nigeria

Mr Oluwafemi Ojo, the Legal Officer of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), told the court that the accused committed the offence along with his son, one Awoniyi Segun, now at large.
Ojo said that the accused persons committed the offence on June 28 and Dec. 31, 2016 at a pond located at No 7, Ilupeju-Ekiti road, Itapa-Ekiti.
He alleged that the accused persons conspired between themselves to commit theft and stole 11,000 pieces of catfish fish, property of on Abioye Ayodeji, valued at N12 million.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 382 punishable under Section 390 Cap 38 of the Criminal Code Act, LFN, 2004.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read for them.
The counsel to the accused persons, Mr Raymond Anyawu, applied for their bail, promising the court that the accused would not jump bail.
The prosecutor, who opposed the bail application, was overruled by the court.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mr Idowu Ayenimo, granted the accused N200, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties must swear to affidavits of means and produce two passport photographs, while one of the sureties must be a civil servant on Grade Level 12 and above.
The magistrate adjourned the case to Feb. 1 for further hearing
