A 22-year-old Wheat Ridge woman who stabbed her 3-year-old son in the stomach as part of a plan to frame an acquaintance has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Mary Harwood pleaded guilty in November to attempted child abuse after prosecutors say she stabbed her son in 2013 and told police that a man was involved in the attack. She also stabbed herself in the leg to further the ruse.
Harwood said the man had threatened her and her family repeatedly, which authorities were never able to substantiate.
Investigators determined most of the information Harwood told them was untrue, and the story was an attempt to frame the man.
Harwood's son was seriously injured but has since recovered
