A star college basketball player was found dead in her room Sunday, and police believe she died after choking on chewing gum.
California University of PennsylvaniaShanice Clark, 21, of Toronto was found dead in her dorm room at California University of Pennsylvania.Shanice Clark, a senior at California University of Pennsylvania, was found in her apartment around 3 a.m. Sunday and pronounced dead an hour later.
Police announced Monday they believe Clark accidentally died from choking on gum in her sleep, the Observer Reporter reports. But blood tests and an autopsy are pending and the death is still being investigated.
Clark, 21, was a 6-foot forward on the school's Vulcans basketball team. She was from Toronto, Canada.
The NCAA women's basketball Twitter account posted a tribute to Clark Monday morning.
"We mourn with @CalVulcans the passing of senior Shanice Clark," the group tweeted, along with a picture of Clark.
