LEADERSHIP Friday gathered that the dead man and his fiancée were planning to get married in March.
A police inspector attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, where the case is being investigated, disclosed that the widow of the late Odukeye collapsed in shock and lost her pregnancy in the process.
He said: “According to the family, the couple was planning to wed in March this year. The case was transferred to us from Surulere Police Station. The victim was a lottery agent of Premier Lotto, at Abiodun Street, Shomolu, which is one of their numerous offices in Lagos. A man reported the victim to his boss, Sade Onafowope, that he (the victim) gave him the sum of N500 for a game worth N1000. When the result came out the man noticed that he won N240,000 and came for his money. The explanation that he deleted it did not go down well with the customer who reported the matter to the boss. Odukeye was taken to Ojuelegba where he was allegedly bound and tortured to death.
“She rushed the victim to a private hospital at Idiaraba, where he was confirmed dead. Instead of telling the police the truth, the woman showed the police a fake autopsy report indicating that the victim died of motor accident.
“Unknown to her, somebody was recording the torture process on his handset and the SCID is banking on it as evidence.”
“When the woman learnt that her deed was discovered, she allegedly begged the father of the deceased with the sum of N1m to forget the case but he refused to collect the money.”
The police said even the great gambler and the owner of Premier Lotto, Chief Adebutu Kessington was interested in the matter and also took a swipe at the woman for such evil act.
According to him, Kessington explained that somebody had made away with his N20m and he did not kill him.
The father of the victim, Mr. Odunkeye, wept uncontrollably over what he called the “destruction” of his family by Odunkeye.
