Gerri Wolfe during the birth |
The woman gave birth to twins, who are number 10 and 11 in her family.
Gerri Wolfe, 41, is now a mother of 11 children. Her oldest child is 19 years old.
Wolfe gave birth to her two daughters, Matilda and Violet, in a very unusual procedure at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, New South Wales.
This was the fifth birth during which Wolfe underwent Caesarean section, but this was a bit different because she was determined to deliver her own babies.
“My other Cesareans were very sterile, very surgical and very impersonal,” she said. So when the mother read online about a mother assisted Caesarean section, she decided to go for it.
Mother assisted Caesarean sections is a typical Cesarean section performed by doctors. The only difference is that the mother reaches into her belly and lifts the baby out rather than having the doctor remove the newborn.
Her obstetrician was not convinced, but Wolfe said: “It's my body, my birth and my babies.”
The doctor did some research before agreeing to her request.
