Bodies Go Missing From Graveyard in Karachi

At least five corpses of children have disappeared from a graveyard in Pakistan's largest city.

The corpses have gone missing from the Afridi Goth graveyard in Mangopir, with two cases having taken place in the last 15 days.

"The corpses have disappeared in the last one month and the matter only came to light last week when the graveyard caretaker informed the police about the disappearance of two more corpses," Jamal Badshah a police official at the area police station told PTI.

The disappearance of the corpses has caused panic reigniting bitter memories of last year when in April two brothers were arrested in a remote Punjab town for admitting to stealing child corpses from the graveyard and eating them.

He said what was strange was that some graveyards were just dug up and left open but no corpses taken.

"Either animals are doing this or we suspect someone is taking these corpses for some black magic ritual which is common in these shanty areas," he said.

"The graves were unpaved, an animal dug its way to the bottom and consumed the child corpses; they did not 'disappear'," said Station House Officer (SHO) Manghopir Ghulam Hussain Korai.

Police officials have been deployed at the graveyard to monitor the situation
