A Clay County Grand Jury indicted Donald Hugh Davidson, Jr., 34, on Wednesday, for the murder of 35-year-old Roseanne Welsh.
Davidson was indicted on charges of murder in the first degree, attempted sexual battery, four counts of sexual battery, lewd or lascivious molestation, kidnapping and grand theft auto.
Davidson, who is a registered sex offender, is accused of fatally stabbing the woman when her 10-year-old daughter came home from school on Monday, Sheriff Rick Beseler said.
The suspect then kidnapped the girl, drove off in the family’s van and sexually assaulted her. The girl was later released by his captor. Deputies arrested Davidson of the 5700 block of Canvasback Road, Middleburg, about eight hours after the woman’s death.
He faces a murder charge in the death of 35-year-old Roseann Welsh Kasama. Davidson and the victim's husband were long-time friends.
Davidson was released from prison in 2010, after he was found guilty of two counts of lewd molestation and aggravated battery on a pregnant woman, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.
The 13-year-old son of Kasama, discovered the body of his mother about 6:00 p.m., and called police, Beseler said.
The state is seeking the death penalty in this case. Davidson was booked in the Clay County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
