Chuka Umunna is bookies favourite to be next Labour leader after Ed Miliband resignation

THE announcement that Chuka Umunna is standing for the Labour leadership resulted in a flurry of betting support as his odds shortened from 6/4 to 11/8 favourite with bookies William Hill.
His likely closest rivals are 11/4 second favourite, Andy Burnham, and joint 11/2 third favourites, Yvette Cooper and Liz Kendall.
'Interestingly, Chuka was freely available at odds of 6/1 on the run-in to, and even on the day of, the General Election, without attracting too much betting attention' said William Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
'But suddenly he has become the candidate everyone wants to back. However, favourite backers should remember that Ed Miliband was not favourite to win Labour's last leadership campaign - his brother David was!
