Maiduguri Explosion Update: 10 feared dead in market blast

A SUICIDE bomber has killed about ten people at a crowded market in the north-eastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, witnesses said.

A vigilant youth who took part in the evacuation of the victims told Daily Trust on Saturday at the scene that a suspected male suicide bomber on transit in a tricycle he boarded set off an IED strapped to his body.
“I was at home when I heard a loud explosion that sent me rushing out of my house. On reaching the Gambouru Customs area market, we saw five dismembered bodies with no hands or legs, while two others, including a motorists in a Honda vehicle, was also killed by the blast”, said the CJTF member in a telephone interview yesterday in Maiduguri.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that six persons were killed in a suicide bomb attack at a Maiduguri market.

According to an eye witness, the explosion went off about 6.30 am Friday morning in a tricycle at the parking area of tricycle operators in the market.
The extremist sect, whose name roughly translates as “Western education is forbidden”, has carried on its campaign of attacks on security forces, suicide bombings and bloody raids on villages across Nigeria’s north and eastern borders despite a major regional military campaign against them.
Just yesterday, Chad said it killed about 100 Boko Haram fighters in an operation against the insurgents holed up on the islands of Lake Chad.
