Gunmen Kill Couple In Benue, Police Arrest Suspect

Gunmen believed to be hired assassins yesterday shot and killed a couple (name withheld) in Katsina-Ala town of Katsina-Ala local government area of Benue State.
The gruesome murder is coming about 24 hours after gunmen believed to be thugs shot and killed a chieftain of the PDP, Elder Atoza Ihindan, in Katsina-Ala town when the deceased visited his construction site to inspect a building project.
Recall that two gunmen that rode on motorbike had last Thursday murdered a couple identified as Tarnongu Ajai and his wife Rebecca at about 8:00pm. They were eating dinner when the gunmen stormed the Utange area and killed them.
However, the police have arrested one suspect in connection to the deadly attack and the killing of the deceased PDP elder statesman.
It was gathered that the suspected murderer was arrested in the forest located on the Katsina-Ala-Takum expressway. Others said he was arrested with lethal weapons near the head bridge of Katsina-Ala river, a tributary of the River Benue while attempting to escape.
The police public relations officer, ASP Austin Ezeani stated that the killing of the couple happened in the early hours of Saturday, alongside arrest of the suspect. He told LEADERSHIP Sunday by telephone yesterday.
He said one of the children of the deceased couple recognised the suspect to have stormed their residence and opened fire on them. He stated that investigation into the matter has commenced.
