The Regent of Akure, the Ondo State capital, has kicked against the selection of new Deji-elect, Prince Kole Aladetoyinbo by the traditional kingmakers without her knowledge.
According to her, she was ignorant of the process leading to the installation of new monarch for the town.
Traditional kingmakers in Akure, on Sunday unanimously selected Prince Kole Aladetoyinbo as the next Deji of the town to replace Oba Adebiyi Adesida who died over a year ago.
Aladetoyinbo, a three time contestant to the throne defeated 12 other princes to emerge as the monarch of the town subject to the approval of the state government.
The Head of the Osupa Ruling House, whose turn it is to produce the next monarch of the town, Dr Ade Ogunleye said the process for the selection of the monarch had been concluded.
“Aladetoyinbo may be presented with staff of office today in preparation for the commencement of the traditional rites”.
However, Princess Adesida said the kingmakers and other relevant government agencies should have informed her about the process so that she could be psychologically prepared for her exit from the palace.
She said traditionally, it would be a taboo for the new monarch to meet her in the palace because of lack of information.
Although she admitted that the Regent has no role to place in the selection and installation of the monarch for the town, she however, said she deserved the right to be carried along as a critical stakeholder in the town.
Princess Adetutu said “The process to me is vague. I was not informed initially. What has been done so far I am not aware. I read that the due process has been made.
