The two childhood friends from Zamfara State who are supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last Sunday commenced a cross-country trekking from the Zamfara State capital of Gusau to the Bayelsa home state of President Goodluck Jonathan to honour him for what they viewed “as his unprecedented achievement in keeping the country united”.
The two young men, Zayyanu Abdullahi from Tsafe local government and Buhari Yunusa from Kaura Namoda, believed that President Jonathan deserves commendation for conceding defeat at a very crucial moment when the nation was apparently heading for disaster.
They said, “If Hashim could trek all the way from Lagos to Abuja to congratulate the president-elect, General Buhari over his victory at the Presidential election, we also believe that President Jonathan who conceded defeat for Nigeria’s democracy to survive needs similar commendation”.They added that this is the reason why as PDP supporters, they decided to trek from Zamfara to Bayelsa to commend the president.
The duo said they opted to trek to Bayelsa rather than Abuja where they may possibly meet the president because Bayelsa is the home state of President Jonathan and not Abuja. They explained that when they arrive, they will convey their commendation letter to the PDP secretariat in Bayelsa for delivery to the president.
“We have purchased seven pairs of shoes each as well as provided for ourselves some satisfactory financial support for feeding and settlement of other logistics.”
