Egypt court again postpones verdict in Jazeera retrial

CAIRO : An Egyptian court Sunday postponed for a second time its verdict in the retrial of three Al-Jazeera journalists, rescheduling it to August 29 in a move that sparked widespread criticism.
The court had already put off its much anticipated verdict last Thursday because the presiding judge Hassan Farid was reportedly ill.
Another judge on Sunday said the verdict was again delayed because other defendants in the trial could not be brought to the court from their cells.

Australian Peter Greste, Canadian Mohamed Fahmy and Egyptian Baher Mohamed were jailed last year for "spreading false news" in support of the blacklisted Muslim Brotherhood during coverage of the turmoil after the army ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

Teen dies after stab attack at gay march

A teenage girl has died days after she was seriously wounded after an anti-gay extremist stabbed her and several others in last week's attack on Jerusalem's gay pride parade.

 

Shira Banki (16) was among six people wounded on Thursday by an ultra-Orthodox Jewish man, Yishai Schlissel, who had carried out a similar attack on a gay pride parade in 2005.

He had angrily spoken out against the parade after his release from prison three weeks earlier.

The parade was in full swing in central Jerusalem when the attacker lunged into the march, stabbing people with a long-bladed knife before being apprehended by police.

Woman gets electrocuted while using ATM

A Chinese woman was electrocuted by an ATM while she was trying to get money last weekend.

The unsuspecting 23-year-old, known as Xiao Liu, was in for a real shock, literally, when she tried to get money out of an ATM.

 

Liu had been entering her PIN code into a cash machine in Xi'an, North West China, when a sudden surge of electricity left her needing hospital treatment.

The electric shock sent 200 volts around the woman's body when humans are said to be able to handle just 36 volts safely.

The electricity passed from Liu's hand to her body, leaving her right arm numb and sore, while she was forced to the floor by the impact of the shock at the China Everbright Bank.

She soon realised that she was bleeding and that the fingernails on her right thumb and ring finger were broken.

Her card had also been swallowed by the machine.

After recovering for a few minutes, the frightened woman then made her way to a local hospital for treatment.

Witches Pushed Me To defile Nine-year-old Girl, Says Father Of Three (Photo)

 A 39-year-old father of three, Ekpeyong Essien, has blamed his two sons, whom he alleged are witches, for pushing him into defiling a nine-year-old girl.
Essien, who hails from Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State, had on July 12, defiled the little girl, Bright Benjamin, at Hawkins Primary School in the Calabar South area of the state capital.

He said the girl had approached him for money to pay her fares home, but he simply instructed her to follow him to a nearby primary school where he defiled her with his fingers.

Essien said his life became useless after his two sons were bewitched by one of his neighbours.

Essien is currently in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Cross River State Police Command at Diamond Hill in Calabar and would soon be charged to court.

Six armed robbers, who specialised in raping and killing their victims were on Thursday arrested by the Oyo State Police Command in Ogbomoso after they were traced through a mobile telephone they stole from one of their victims.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Katsina, said while parading the robbers that one of them died during a gun duel with the police while another was seriously injured.

Until their arrest, the robbers were said to be living in different cities and only came together when they wanted to go for operations. Katsina said investigation took his men to Ijebu-Ode, Ibadan, Ogbomoso and Oyo where the robbers were picked up.

Katsina explained that, “The group had been terrorising Oyo and Ogbomoso for a long time. On one occasion, they robbed a house and gang-raped two women. While escaping with their loot after an operation on May, 28, 2015, they shot a passer-by. The gunshot alerted my men and they acted quickly. Further investigation led us to Ijebu-Ode where the leader of the gang was caught.

Maiduguri Explosion Update: 10 feared dead in market blast

A SUICIDE bomber has killed about ten people at a crowded market in the north-eastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, witnesses said.

A vigilant youth who took part in the evacuation of the victims told Daily Trust on Saturday at the scene that a suspected male suicide bomber on transit in a tricycle he boarded set off an IED strapped to his body.
“I was at home when I heard a loud explosion that sent me rushing out of my house. On reaching the Gambouru Customs area market, we saw five dismembered bodies with no hands or legs, while two others, including a motorists in a Honda vehicle, was also killed by the blast”, said the CJTF member in a telephone interview yesterday in Maiduguri.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that six persons were killed in a suicide bomb attack at a Maiduguri market.

According to an eye witness, the explosion went off about 6.30 am Friday morning in a tricycle at the parking area of tricycle operators in the market.

8 Pregnant Girls Were Saved From Uncovered Baby Factory In Delta

Eight pregnant girls have been rescued from an uncovered baby factory in Asaba, Detla state. The operator of the ‘factory’ has been arrested by the Delta police command.
According to a statement made by a spokesperson of the command, DSP Celestina Kalu, the baby-making factory was discovered after detectives, acting on a tip-off, swooped on the premises.
“On July 30, 2015, Police detectives from GRA Division Asaba, while acting on a tip-off, raided a suspected baby factory opposite the Federal Radio Corporation, Asaba, and arrested its operator, Mr. John Ihezun,” Kalu said.
Reportedly, the detectives also arrested two boys, Prince Chukwu and Obum Nwankwo, and found eight pregnant girls (names withheld) in the premises of the baby factory.
The command said it had commenced investigations into the matter, saying that any person found to be involved, would be prosecuted.

The actress and wife of veteran actor, Nobert Young, has decided to go all out against the bank after waiting for the bank to repay the cash for seven months.

Speaking to The Punch, Young said, ‘I went to use an ATM at Ejigbo, close to NNPC bus-stop in Lagos in December. I wanted to withdraw N20,000 but the machine did not dispense the money after debiting my account. I went to the second machine and it paid me. After six days without hearing a word from the bank, I went to complain. I also went to my bank to report the situation. This was in December. I have gone to them so many times to talk about it but all to no avail.
