Falcons delegation arrive Ottawa for draws

Okonn The Super Falcons delegation have arrived Ottawa, capital of Canada for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015.
Falcons’ Coach, Edwin Okon, led the group which included Team Administrator, Ruth David and Team Media Officer, Gracious Akujobi.
The team, which left Abuja on Thursday via a British Airways aircraft, touched down in London Heathrow after a six-hour flight. They later transited for two hours at Heathrow before connecting an Air Canada flight for Toronto that lasted eight hours. From Toronto they connected to Ottawa and arrived at 11:25pm local time with a freezing temperature of -16 degrees.
The delegation was welcomed at the airport by FIFA team Liaison Officer and the team driver who took the team straight to their hotel at the Westin Hotel and Resorts.
When asked what he is expecting from the draw, Coach Okon stated quietly but with confidence that he and his girls are ready to face any opposition.
“We have qualified for the World Cup and we are here for the draws. It doesn’t matter who we are drawn against, what matters is that we are prepared to face any team.
“Don’t forget we are African champions and we hope to show the whole world the stuff we are made of. We hope for a favourable draw but we are not afraid to meet any team” Okon enthused.
The draw will take place at the Museum of History Ottawa-Gatineau between 12:00 – 1300 local time.

Senatorial Race : Why I Withdrew – Uduaghan

Apparently determined to finish strong on his peace and security agenda, Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan Friday in Asaba announced his withdrawal from the Delta South Senatorial race.
With the withdrawal, less than two days to the primary, incumbent Senator James Manager would likely be returned unopposed as the primary of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for next year’s election was supposed to be a two race between Manager and Uduaghan.
Speaking with reporters in Asaba, Uduaghan said that his dropping out of the race was necessitated by his determination to ensure that peace reigns in the state.
He said that he had a meeting yesterday with President Goodluck Jonathan and the national Chairman, Dr. Adamu Muazu where the political situation in Delta State was critically analysed and had to make a sacrifice by stepping down.
He said: “I have to offer myself as a sacrifice to ensure that the political and security tension that had built up in recent times is reduced. In doing that I am aware that a lot of my followers will be very unhappy but I want to appeal to them that I have to do this for the sake of this state.”
While denying that he was forced to step down, Uduaghan said that quitting the race will offer him the opportunity to concentrate on national issues and be able to manage the remaining the primaries of the PDP and the election proper next year.
Alluding to the allege threats by the Ijaw to resume hostilities should Manager, their kinsman be shortchanged in place of Uduaghan, an Itsekiri, the governor said that maintaining the peace in the state was more important than electoral victories which are won at great human

Female football fan reveals horrific injuries after being beaten in front of young daughter

A female football fan has shared pictures of horrific injuries she sustained during a brutal beating in front of her young daughter, in a campaign to get the thugs responsible taken to court.

Lorena Sabio, 33, from Argentina's Buenos Aires province, had taken her eight-year-old daughter Altea to watch her side River Plate beat opposing team Boca Juniors when she was spotted wearing her team's shirt by a rival fan.

She said: "He came up to me and I couldn't believe it when he just punched me in the head."

The man - who she named as Miguel Angel Zienzonok and is nicknamed "Ketchup" because he likes making a red mess of rivals - and his fellow thugs then gave the young mum such as savage beating that doctors said she will always bear the scars on her face.

She said: "I was lying on the ground barely conscious, and he told me to stay there and warned me that if I went to the police, I would pay the price."

The story was backed up by other locals who told local media that the attack was unprovoked.

But so far police have still not arrested the main suspect, prompting Loreno to post the pictures on Facebook and demand police act.

She said: "He has threatened me and his family have told me to stop the campaign, but what more can they do to me, they have already ruined my face.

"I have difficulty even managing to eat, and will need dozens of operations that I can't afford to return my health. My daughter has nightmares.

"The man is crazy, and unless somebody stands up to him he will probably carry on doing it and next time probably kill someone."

British woman who 'was TRICKED into believing she had been pregnant and given birth in Nigeria' loses fight to keep the baby she took away from African clinic

A woman who claimed to have been tricked into thinking she had given birth by Nigerian fraudsters has lost her fight to care for the baby she brought home to the UK from the African 'clinic'.
The woman, of dual British and Nigerian nationality, travelled from London to the African country in 2010 after struggling to conceive naturally.
After being 'drugged' and undergoing 'a process which resembled birth', the woman returned to the UK with the infant who has severe disabilities.
Within months the baby was taken into social care, with a judge ordering earlier this year the boy be permanently looked after by the state.

The woman, who thought she was his biological mother despite DNA tests revealing otherwise, fought the decision, but has lost an appeal at the High Court.
Today a judge ruled the woman should not have any part in the child's upbringing despite 'hoping against hope' he was her son.
The court heard how the woman travelled to Nigeria in 2010 to undergo 'herbal treatment' she thought would help her conceive a baby.
Despite being told by a British GP that she was not carrying a child, the woman returned to Nigeria where, following 'a process which resembled a birth', she was presented with the child.
'Her state of mind at that point was that she continued to hope against hope that it might just be the case that she was the baby’s mother.
'She closed her eyes to all of the pointers in the other direction,' Lady Justice Black said.
In 2012 the pair returned to the UK where, despite her efforts, the boy's health suffered due to severe disabilities.
Visits to health services raised concerns over how the woman and the child were related, and the boy was entrusted to the care of foster parents.

After launching an appeal to win back custody of the child, the woman was described as being 'hostile to social workers'.
Judge Pamela Scriven QC told the court the woman 'saw the world through a narrow and self-justifying lens.'
It was ruled the boy be permanently cared for by local authorities, a decision which the woman and her legal team appealed.
However in a separate ruling, Lady Justice Black today said their efforts had 'no real prospect of success'.
'I consider that these various grounds of appeal have no real prospect of success on appeal.
'The judge made careful factual findings, which rightly identified the many problems in the way in which this woman approached the child’s welfare.'

Why Nigeria cancelled US military training – FG

ABUJA—The Federal Government, yesterday, gave reason for the cancellation of the training of Nigerian soldiers by American security experts, attributing it to logistic problem.

The U.S. Government, through its Embassy in Abuja on Monday said in a statement that “At the request of the Nigerian government, the United States will discontinue its training of a Nigerian Army battalion.”
But Nigerian government explained that it did not cancel the training, but that the condition placed down by US government was not healthy for the security of lives and property of its citizens, particularly those in the north east region.
The conditions, according to it, include withdrawing of some military equipment from the battle field, so that the American could use them to train the soldiers.
The Coordinator of the National Information Centre, Mr. Mike Omeri, who stated this during a routine briefing on security situation in the country, in Abuja, said the government would not expose its citizens at the mercy of insurgents because it wants to train its solders.
However, Omeri maintained that the two countries were not at variance as being insinuated by some people in the country. “Nigeria and America have strong military relation till date. It’s still ongoing and strong,” he said, disclosing that Nigerian soldiers had concluded two phases of the training out of the three.
Omeri explained that the third phase had to do with logistical components which the Americas did not provide but instead relied on Nigerian Military equipments, which was currently in use in the troubled states.

Refining capacity of Warri, P-Harcourt refineries worries NUPENG

Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, yesterday, expressed concern over the drop in the refining capacity of both Warri and Port Harcourt refineries, decrying the output from the refineries which had dropped to an average of 16 percent of their combined nameplate capacity of 445,000 barrels per day.NUPENG in a statement by its President, Mr. Igwe Achese, said this was an unfortunate and uncomfortable development for the downstream oil and gas sector of the economy. The union expressed sadness that the four refineries in the country, operated at 10 per cent installed capacity in June, which it noted was a shame, despite the abundance of crude oil deposits in the land.According to NUPENGt, “in this era of government imposed austerity measures, the cost of foreign exchange to import fuel will tell much on the economy, thus imposing more hardship, especially on the down-trodden masses.“We believe that a cabal is benefitting from the importation of fuel at the expense of our people and also working in unison to make the four nation’s refineries not to work.“This cabal is also lobbying the powers that be for the refineries to be sold to them as scraps. The Federal Government must ensure the turn-around-maintenance of the four nation’s refineries and make sure that adequate supply of crude is sent in to reduce the importation of petroleum products.”“We deplores the current state of the refineries, as they are strategic, and for security reasons, must not be allowed to rot away and sold but increase their capacity utilization and establish new ones. We will not allow government to sell the refineries as scraps when they can be reactivated and reduce the current massive importation of petroleum.” - See more at:

Cop Won’t Be Jailed For Eric Garner’s Murder

I cried after watching this video. You might too after watching it. Remember the Staten Island man who died on the street after a cop put him in an illegal chokehold? In the footage that surfaced of the incident, the man, Eric Garner, pleaded with cops to leave him alone multiple times before one cop grabbed him by the neck and pulled him down to the ground. While he was in the chokehold, Eric said at least 8 times, “I can’t breathe” before going silent. He was later pronounced dead.

Just like Darren Wilson, the officer responsible for Eric Garner’s death will not be charged for his murder.

Despite the father of six’s death being captured on a cell phone camera, a Staten Island grand jury of 23 decided not to indict Officer Pantaleo because they didn’t think placing Eric in an illegal chokehold was done with criminal intent. That conclusion was reached after Pantaleo testified to the grand jury for two hours last month about his state of mind during the incident. It is believed the charges Pantaleo was facing included second degree manslaughter and reckless endangerment.
Esaw Garner, Eric’s widow, reacted to the shocking news with anger and disbelief.

Oh my God, are you serious? I’m very disappointed. You can see in the video that he (the cop) was dead wrong!
Though Eric suffered asthma, the medical examiner did find that the illegal chokehold contributed to his death.

9-Year-Old Child Never Grows Old

9-year-old girl who may be staying young forever. She has a rare condition that just made Benjamin Button a reality.
Gabby may be the first true case of biological immortality, according to doctors. The 9-year-old, 11-pound child still has a face of a baby but with a body of a toddler. Her condition is the first in the world so doctors are not able to name her case after her chromosome tests showed negative results for genetic conditions.

Her body has a unique aging process that would take four years before her body develops to a year. The doctors told parents Mary-Margaret and John to expect the worst.
Their daughter was diagnosed with a cleft palate, heart defects and swallowing difficulties so she can only be nourished via tube feeding. Also, she is blind and unable to speak.
"They knew something was seriously wrong," said Mary-Margaret.
"But my husband and I hoped it was just a feeding problem and that it wasn't going to be a big thing."
Gabby was taken home and showered with love. She began growing stronger despite fighting for infections. Then, after a few months, Gabby was observed to never grow old.
"Gabby hasn't changed since pretty much forever," her mum says.
"She's a little longer now and we are putting her in size 3-6 month clothes instead of 0-3 months."
The doctors then told the couple that their child has a slow aging process and there still has no name for such case.
Gabby still needs to drink milk every three hours from a bottle even at 9. Her hair is still similar to that of a baby. Her weight is near-close to a baby weighing 11 lbs.
After they went public about Gabby's condition, they met two individuals who have the same condition with their daughter.
One of them is a 31-year-old man from Florida, who has a body of a 10-year-old. The other one is a 31-year-old Brazil-based woman who still looks like a toddler. Both do not know what their condition is called.
Currently, the doctors are studying Gabby's case for the possibility of turning the genetic off to stop the ageing process. Initially, Mary-Margaret and John did not want their daughter to be a guinea pig, but soon realized that they can help other people struggling with the same condition.
"Despite her case, Gabby's family has high hopes for her. "From her birth we didn't think she would be with us very long." Mary-Margaret said.
"The fact is she is now nine years old. She kind of surpassed my expectations from the get go."
They believe God has a plan for Gabby.
"When he is ready to take her back, it will be sad. I know it will happen, but I am not hoping it's any day soon."
They see Gabby as perfect despite her condition. They happily surround her with love and care.

Man Wrote Own Obituary with Funny But Touching Marks Before Dying

Aaron Pumort with Nora
35-year-old art director Aaron Pumort died with only wife Nora and son Ralphie behind. His funny-but-touching obituary became an instant hit after making it public.
Art director Pumort was diagnosed of brain cancer in 2011 and his life was documented on his wife's blog "My Husband's Tumor," with a statement saying that their story "is not a cancer story, it's a love story. With some cancer."
Before he died, the couple was able to create an obituary filled with hilarious and witty statements.
In the obituary, Nora wrote: "I've never laughed and cried more in one sitting, but I'm so glad we got to do this. I love this man so damn much."
"Purmort, Aaron Joseph age 35, died peacefully at home on November 25 after complications from a radioactive spider bite that led to years of crime-fighting and a years long battle with a nefarious criminal named Cancer, who has plagued our society for far too long. Civilians will recognize him best as Spider-Man, and thank him for his many years of service protecting our city.
His family knew him only as a kind and mild-mannered Art Director, a designer of websites and t-shirts, and concert posters who always had the right cardigan and the right thing to say (even if it was wildly inappropriate). Aaron was known for his long, entertaining stories, which he loved to repeat often.
In high school, he was in the band The Asparagus Children, which reached critical acclaim in the northern suburbs. As an adult, he graduated from the College of Visual Arts (which also died an untimely death recently) and worked in several agencies around Minneapolis, settling in as an Interactive Associate Creative Director at Colle + McVoy. Aaron was a comic book aficionado, a pop-culture encyclopedia and always the most fun person at any party.
He is survived by his parents Bill and Kim Kuhlmeyer, father Mark Purmort (Patricia, Autumn, Aly), sisters Erika and Nicole, first wife Gwen Stefani, current wife Nora and their son Ralph, who will grow up to avenge his father's untimely death."
There is also a fundraising campaign to support Aaron's treatment cost and Nora and Ralphie's sustenance for a few months. Currently, it already received more than $116,000 from $100,000 goal.
