On Friday, October 16, there was a disturbing story of how a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi Araba, Dr Hestiana Thomas, was beaten to death by her husband, himself a Consultant Clinical Pathologist at the same specialist hospital.
But there is a new twist to the story as the husband has come out to say that his wife committed suicide since she had mental health issues, while her friends, colleagues and family, insist he bludgeoned her to death, as she had serious bruises all over her body by the time she was rushed to the hospital, with a deep cut on her skull.
They also say that the man had an history of beating her in the past. The state government has also ordered a thorough autopsy be done on the late mother of two young kids, to determine what actually killed her.
