He said that the elderly woman was rescued by the operatives attached to the new anti-kidnap squad set up to arrest those involved in the nefarious act. The police officer revealed that the kidnappers had demanded for N10m ransom.
“Part of the money was made available and was taken to a point where they were supposed to collect it. The police then swung into action and rescued the old woman after a gun battle with the kidnappers,” he added.
Hassan said that the criminals abandoned the money and fled, none of them was arrested. However, he added that the police had set in motion the machinery to apprehend all those connected with the kidnapping and any other criminal act in the area.
“We are battle-ready to prevent any form of crimiality in our areas of jurisdiction,” he stressed.
The police officer called on local residents to help the police by giving intelligence report that would help them and other security agencies to discharge their primary assignment diligently.
Hassan also called on the sultanate council of Sokoto and traditional rulers in Kebbi and Zamfara in sensitising the people to the need to be security conscious.
