A 23-year-old housemaid, Idowu Adeyeye, has been dragged to the Abule-Egba Magistrates' Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing her employer, Titilayo Ogundipe's gold jewellery valued at N4.6 million.
The lady who lives with the family that employed her at the Ijaiye Medium Housing Estate, Agege, according to the police prosecutor, Inspector Rachael Williams, has been charged with three counts of conspiracy, stealing and causing a breach of the peace.
Williams told the court that Adeyeye committed the offences on May 28, 2015, at her employer’s residence, when she connived with others who are now at large, to steal the jewellery, an offence contravening sections 166 (d), 278 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
"The complainant got home from work to discover that the door to her room was opened and all her gold jewellery were missing.
The housekeeper disappeared after the incident, but was later arrested following a tip-off."
Magistrate Adenike Shonubi however granted Adeyeye bail in the sum of N2.5 million after she pleaded not guilty while the case was adjourned to June 15 for trial
