Crisis rocks APC over national assembly leadership

The tussle over the leaderships of the 8th Legislative Assembly in the Senate and the federal house of representatives is threatening the mutual cooperation and understanding the All Progressives Congress ( APC) had enjoyed since the legacy parties formed alliance to create the APC in 2013.
Some of the Senators and Federal House of Representatives-elect under the platform of the party are on collision course with the party leadership over what they described as “attempt to impose” national assembly leaders on them against their wish.

The party had on Thursday scheduled “a crucial” meeting with its elected federal lawmakers but postponed it till Saturday for some inexplicable reason. The meeting, as it was gathered, was meant to bring conflicting interests together and present sole candidates for leadership positions at the two legislative chambers.

While the national leadership of the party is said to be rooting for the candidacy of Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as Senate President and speaker of the federal house of representatives, It was gathered that some lawmakers who are in sharp disagreement with the zoning arrangement deposed to by the party leadership.

In a reaction to the notice of the all-inclusive meeting on Thursday, some members-elect of the party under the aegis of 8th Assembly Consolidation Group have warned the party leadership to desist from acts capable of rocking the party early.

In a statement signed by the members which included Ahman Aliyu Pategi, Zakari Mohammed, Babangida Ibrahim Mahuta, Aishat Dukku, Haliru Jika and Jagaba Adams Jagaba reminded the party leadership of President Buhari’s stand on the liberty of the Assembly to choose their leaders.

Why congratulating the president and Vice president, Yemi Osibanjo on their successful swearing in last Friday, they said that any attempt by the party leadership to subvert the will of the majority of the members would be resisted.
