Boy Raped Severally In Kirikiri Prison (picture)

Image result for Boy Raped Severally In Kirikiri Prison (picture)A teenager has revealed how he was raped several times while in Kirikiri Prison. The teenager, Bashua (surname withheld), said that the incident happened in 2014, when he was just 16-year-old. He said that the policemen doctored his age, to ensure they arraigned and sent him to prison.

Bashua had recently regained his freedom, through the intervention of the Stephen and Solomon Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (WHO). The foundation is led by Mr. Giwa Amu, a Lagos-based human rights lawyer.

Bashua, a secondary school student, said he was returning home from a coaching class when he was arrested by a team of policemen. According to him, he was later charged to court for an offence he did not commit. He said: “I was remanded at the Kirikiri Prison and experienced being locked with over 100 inmates who were older than me. I was molested sexually. I was raped several times in a day.

UNILAG Students Built An Electric Car From Scratch

A group of Mechanical Engineering students from the University of Lagos have built an electric-powered car from scratch, using locally sourced materials.

The project, which began in 2014, was initiated by two engineering graduates (then undergrads), Olukoya Olusanya and Maduka Smart, who later enlisted the help of other mechanical engineering students. The result of the collaboration was a zero emission electric powered prototype vehicle called dubbed the DOVE P1.

The DOVE P1, which is made of a fibre glass body, weighs in at about 200kg and is capable of speeds of up to 35 km/h.

While one would question the viability an electric car in a nation that struggles with reliable power supply. “Cars are going electric”, said team lead Olukoya Olusanya in an interview with CCTV News, “and I believe that in the next 15 years, more than half of all cars sold around the world will be either partially electric or fully electric”.

These are quite bold statements. All around the developed world, electric cars continue to struggle to get mass adoption. Their high cost, limited range do not help their cause much, even in developing nations where power is not a problem.

Nevertheless, Project Dove (as the team is called) remains confident that electric cars are the future. They have launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $25,000 towards replicating the technology at other Universities all around Nigeria.

See astronaut play water ping-pong in space

If NASA ever invents the Space Olympics, it should include events like making coffee in bags, eating lettuce, running a marathon while strapped to a treadmill and playing ping-pong with floating liquids. Astronaut Scott Kelly is already the favorite for a gold medal when it comes to that latter sport.
Kelly is in the midst of a one-year stay on the International Space Station. January 21 marked his 300th day, so he celebrated with a one-person game of ping pong. There were no standard balls in play here, but rather a spherical drop of liquid floating in microgravity.
Kelly employed two paddles with hydrophobic coatings designed to repel water. He squeezed a ball of water out of a silver bag and allowed the ball of liquid to bounce between the paddles, its shape distending with every strike against the hydrophobic surfaces.
