Veteran actor, Jab Adu is dead

Veteran actor, Joseph Abiodun Babatunde Adu, better known as Jab Adu, is dead.
According to reports, the talented actor passed on in his Abeokuta, Ogun State home early yesterday morning. He was aged 83.
Renowned for his role as ‘Bassey Okon’ in the popular Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, drama series ‘The Village Headmaster,’ Jab Adu was said to have been contending with a minor illness associated with old age.
Trained as a professional banker before settling for acting, the late Jab Adu had an illustrious career on stage, television and film.

Oliseh Resigns As Super Eagles Coach!

An Ijaw leader, who preferred anonymity told Vanguard, yesterday: “Our counsel to Tompolo is to stem the feared bombardment of our communities and harassment of innocent citizens by security operatives under the guise of searching for him and perpetrators of January pipeline bombing in the state.”

Nigerians Pay Highest Tariff Per Kilowatt In Africa’

CONSUMER Rights Advancement Organisation (CRADO) has raised the alarm over the recent hike in electricity tariff, lamenting that Nigerians pay the highest tariff per kilowatt in Africa.
A statement signed by CRADO’s President, Mr. Adeolu Ogunbanjo, made available to Daily Sun, observed that before the latest hike in electricity tariff, Nigerians had been paying higher than countries with stronger economies.
‘‘Incontrovertibly, before this increment, Nigerians have been paying the highest tariff per kilowatt in Africa and contiguous regions. We pay higher than Egypt and countries with stronger economies,’’ the statement said.
Recall that Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had on February 1, commenced the implementation of new electricity tariff for residential and industrial users across the country.

‘Lunatic’ Arrested In Ondo With 18 ATM Cards (photo)

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man who appeared to be a lunatic in Akure, the state capital, on Monday with 18 Automated Teller Machine cards of different banks and some cash in his possession.

The suspect, who was said to be in his 30s, was arrested in the Ijapo area of the capital city by the residents of the area.

They later handed him over to policemen in the Ijapo Police Station, saying they suspected him to be an armed robber disguising like a mad person.

According to a source, some residents of the area have been observing him (suspect) roaming around the streets and suspecting him to be using his appearance to deceive the people in the area.

On Monday, the source said the suspect was accosted by the residents, but his explanation was not tenable as he was reportedly incoherent while responding to the different questions put to him. He was arrested and handed over to the police.

The source said an undisclosed sum of money made up of different denominations was found on him and he could not explain how and where he got the money from.

Zimbabwe seizes plane with dead body and cash on board

Blood was seen dripping from the South Africa-bound cargo plane during a refuelling stop, the Herald paper said. Zimbabwe's Civil Aviation Authority said the matter had been handed over to the police to investigate. Its chief, David Chawota, said the cargo on the US-owned plane belonged to the South African Reserve Bank. A senior official at the bank, Pradeep Maharaj, said: "The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) is aware of an aircraft carrying a SARB consignment that stopped in Harare and was detained following the discovery of an unidentified body that is Banners googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1367901892346-12'); presumed to be a stowaway on the aircraft." The bank was working with authorities to ensure that the cargo was released and transported to South Africa, he told the BBC. The plane had been travelling from Germany to South Africa and belonged to Florida-based Western Global Airlines, Zimbabwean officials said. It had made a request to land at Zimbabwe's Harare International Airport to refuel, they said. An airport source told the Zimbabwe Herald that after seeing the blood on Sunday airport attendants "discovered a suspended dead body in the plane". -

A woman cut off her brother-in-law’s penis and handed it to police, claiming he had sexually assaulted her.
The 32-year-old woman, accompanied by her three children, went to a police station in the Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh in central India, where she told officers her brother-in-law had raped her, according to the Times of India.
She had been living with her brother-in-law because her husband worked more than 700 miles away, in Nashik, Maharashtra.
His body was reportedly found hanging from a tree near their house.

Oliseh: Technical Committee members resign en masse

THE Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, made up of such eminent Nigerians like Christian Chukwu, Paul Bassey, Victor Ikpeba, Mutiu Adepoju and Garba Lawal have resigned their appointments. Sports Vanguard can reveal that they resigned en masse following what they described as the mishandling of the Sunday Oliseh’s case by the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick. After the now infamous “insane” attack on Nigerians by Oliseh on YouTube, the NFF had referred the case to the Technical Committee to recommend penalties to be meted out to the loquacious coach. Sports Vanguard also gathered that the Committee after exhaustive deliberations were utterly disappointed that Pinnick jettisoned their report and instead ran to the Youth and Sports Minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung who saved the embattled coach by asking for a second chance for him.
